These four history and folklore plays were written to reinforce learning for the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) for grades three to five, but most will work anywhere.

“The Virginia Show” uses a morning show format to explain about Virginia’s geography, history, agriculture and business. The news anchors interview rivers, regions of the state, government figures and others who provide a wealth of information about Virginia. This play has been a hit with students performing it. (Excerpt)

In “The History Challenge” we meet a colorful cast of competitors in a contest about American and Virginian history from the “discovery” of North America by European explorers through some important 20th century citizens. Suspense builds as contestants get eliminated in a surprise ending. Or is it? This play will work for groups outside of Virginia.

“A Romp Through Early American History” covers U.S. history from the European explorers through the end of the Revolutionary War. Actors and audience members learn about our history by meeting the explorers (were they all just lost?), early settlers, first Americans and our founding fathers (who might not have been as statesman-like as you were taught). This one works anywhere.

“Tall Tale Tellers” takes us backstage at a Wild West show where Annie Oakley, Paul Bunyan, Calamity Jane and others try to outdo one another with stories of their most famous exploits. The play is suitable for any region.

$39.95 plus shipping - Includes six plays; focus on math and science

Read an excerpt from ‘The Science Project’ here.

Includes six science and math plays, subjects that aren’t state specific.

“Everyday Math” and “Your Number’s Up” involve a group of math challenged students who would rather be playing than studying for an upcoming test. Fortunately a time-traveling magician and a talking chalkboard change their attitudes and help them prepare for the big test.

There are no people in the cast of “Heavenly Bodies.” Instead the Earth, moon and sun tell us about themselves with a little help from some talking oceans and elements. These heavenly bodies have some very human traits and their interaction makes the learning experience fun.

A group of students preparing a report on weather and weather instruments looks for some help from a slightly off-kilter professor. The result is ”The Science Project”, a fast moving, funny lesson in weather and weather forecasting. Children will love this one! (Excerpt)

As if talking chalkboards and planets weren’t enough “It’s A Dog’s World” and “Less Bark, More Science” introduce us to a pack of dogs who act very much like humans attending science classes. These plays provide a special chance for character development as the children create the look and actions of different dogs.
